Last night, I was invited to speak at the Vancouver City Council on two items of the Agenda #4, and #7. #4 was addressing a Climate action focus, that was discussed online and in person in the City Council Chambers. And Item #7 was focused on the Fossil Fuel Moratorium Extension. After almost two years of this City council voting to extend and think about powerful restrictive actions in support of the Environment in Clark County, WA, and the City of Vancouver, the council has not yet agreed on a permanent resolution to restrict all Coal, and Fossil Fuel storage new Projects to keep Toxic Fossil Fuel storage facilities out of Clark County, and Vancouver, WA. Maybe after two year the Vancouver City Council will make the necessary changes to make a much more extensive regulatory action on keeping BIG Oil and Coal out of our Beautiful City and County, in Beautiful Still Green Pacific Northwest. Here are some basic numbers to begin. With a population of almost 192,000, we are one of the fastest growing cities, in the state of Washington, and in perhaps the second or third largest growing county, Clark County. the Diversity is ever growing in strength and power. The city was founded in 1825, and named after Captain George Vancouver, British Sailor and Explorer. Our history is great and strong. in terms of myself and my own Family Heritage, I am primarily of White Caucasian Descent, with a large Native or Indigenous person ancestry. If I were to relocate to Vancouver, B.C., Canada, and become a Canadian citizen I can trace my family ancestry to that of Being a part of a First People’s indigenous Nation of Canada. a member of the Metis, which a group of French Fur Trappers that came to the Northwest with the Hudson Bay Company. Through interbreeding with other First Peoples of Canada, my French, and Scandinavian background is of a Rich Cultural and Ethnic background that I am proud of as a Metis, you can view my 8th generational family heritage here at this link.

By the 1840s, the Manifest Destiny had Americans in the East eager to expand their horizons. While Lewis and Clark had made their way west from 1804 to 1806, merchants, traders and trappers were also among the first people to forge a path across the Continental Divide.
But it was missionaries who really blazed the Oregon Trail. Merchant Nathan Wyeth led the first missionary group west in 1834 where they built an outpost in present-day Idaho.

1759: The Battle of the Plains of Abraham establishes British control over Canada and other parts of New France, ending France’s claim to its territory. With the revival of the Montréal-based fur trade in the 1770s, a distinction is made between the Métis, descended from Canadien voyageur fathers, and the “Country Born” (English-Métis) descended from English or Scottish fathers. 1811 1811: The Hudson’s Bay Company grants Thomas Douglas (Lord Selkirk), a Scottish peer, a land grant of 116,000 acres centred on the junction of the Red and Assiniboine Rivers in the Red River Valley to bring in Scottish settlers. The Métis who already live in the area refuse to accept Lord Selkirk’s control because they fear losing both their lands and their ability to both trade and provide pemmican for the fur trade
My ancestors arrived in this region of North America almost a full decade prior to the Oregon Trail Settlers, and some of them were already pretty far West in Central and Western Canada.
